NAME OF THE OLIVE OIL
SINGLE BRANDED OLIVE OIL IN RESTAURANT AREAS
The Ministry of Economy and Development is putting an end to the bottles of dubious cleanliness which contain olive oil of dubious quality and are found on the tables of restaurants – the well-known “Ladoxido”. From 1 January 2018, the use of reusable bottles of olive oil in the restaurant industry will be banned and the use of disposable packaging with branded product will be mandatory.
The above regulation will be included in the new market law provisions, the rules on the Marketing and Trade in Goods and Services (TMPS), as they have been renamed for a few years now, to be issued in the near future. The relevant public consultation on the new IPPCs has been completed since 24 April 2017, but now the relevant ministerial decision is expected to be signed.
The bottles used from 1 January 2018 will bear all the required markings on the label as required for branded olive oil packaging. Whether or not to charge the consumer will be at the discretion of the restaurant owner. It should be noted that the implementation of this regulation has already received the agreement of the restaurant sector.
The measure is expected to strengthen producers and olive oil standardisation companies, while the catering sector is also expected to benefit, as, on the one hand, the restaurant can charge for the disposable bottle and, on the other hand, enhance its reputation.
